In the absence of Japan international Tomiyasu at right-back, Portugal international Cedric Soares was given the nod and he didn’t really impress as his performance against the Championship team showed why Tomiyasu is the undisputed first choice right-back at the club.

Tomiyasu was relatively unknown to a lot of Arsenal fans when he joined the club from Bologna last summer but he has quickly become a fans favourite. The Arsenal fans had taken to him since his first few appearances for the club and he’s one of those few players who never have a bad game irrespective of the opposition.

For the Nottingham Forest clash in the third round of the FA Cup at the City Ground, Cedric and the other Arsenal players failed to have a shot on target as they produced a lacklustre display to exit the competition.

Arsenal were below average for the majority of the game and they paid the price eight minutes from time when experienced striker Lewis Grabban came off the bench to score the winning goal from close range. He had come on for debutant Keinan Davis who’s on loan at the club from Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The goal from Grabban was enough to knock Arsenal out of the FA Cup at the third round stage for the second time in five years via a 1-0 win. Nottingham Forest were the team who handed the Gunners their first third round exit in the FA Cup in almost three decades via a 4-2 home win while legendary manager Arsene Wenger was still at the club.

Nottingham Forest will still be at home in the FA Cup fourth round against holders Leicester City.
